Dive Insight:
Transportation and logistics handling is a rapidly growing industry, employing over six million people as of 2012 with the potential of accounting for over 10% of new jobs created in the next three years, according to a report by MHL Roadmap.
“With this growth, the industry is struggling to find and train quality logistics, transportation, and distribution employees," said APICS CEO Abe Eshkenazi. "As a result, there is a market need and demand for a certification based on a single, universal body of knowledge."
The CLTD comprehensive exam covers eight modules: logistics and supply chain overview; capacity planning and demand management; order management; inventory and warehouse management; transportation management; global logistics considerations; logistics network design; and reverse logistics and sustainability.
Candidates must have three years of business experience, a bachelor's degree, or a previous APICS certification in order to qualify for the credential program.
