Dive Insight:
The air carrier's service expansion follows similar expansions by UPS, and a trend of positive growth in both the air freight and emergency shipment markets.
Freight ton kilometers carried by air have shown rapid growth over the past six months, according to the most recent International Air Transport Association data, and shippers are taking the hint to expand this market.
The company is betting on the high-value market and guaranteed rapid response times for entry into the market. However, many makers are still weary of shipping hazardous materials or cold chain goods due to fears of pressure-based damages, and competition is plentiful, so the company will likely rely on current clients at first.
