Dollar General promoted Rod West to EVP of global supply chain, effective Sept. 1, according to a Thursday announcement.
West will take the lead on Dollar General's distribution center operations, transportation, supply chain modernization and private fleet. The discount retailer’s private tractor fleet “consisted of more than 1,800 tractors at the end of Q2,” CEO Jeff Owen said in an August earnings call.
West joined Dollar General in 2005 as the VP of process improvement, and most recently served as SVP of distribution for the discount retailer. During his past 18 years with Dollar General, the supply chain executive has also led supply chain, finance, merchandising, marketing and store operations initiatives.
"Rod is an outstanding leader who will continue driving Dollar General forward through his considerable internal knowledge and experience on our supply chain team," Owen said in a statement. “I am confident his leadership and expertise will further benefit Dollar General’s business, customers and communities.”
Prior to working with Dollar General, West worked with the retail and consumer products consulting practice Kurt Salmon Associate.
Dollar General has been making efforts to strengthen its supply chain over the past year, including the addition of multiple distribution centers in Nebraska, Georgia, Texas and New York. In July, the company announced an initiative to increase its work with diverse suppliers, with a goal of mitigating or removing unintended barriers for diverse vendors.
