Apple expects shipments of its new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to be delayed as its primary assembly facility in Zhengzhou, China, operates at "significantly reduced capacity” due to COVID-19 restrictions, the company announced on Sunday.

"We now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products," Apple said in a press release. "We are working closely with our supplier to return to normal production levels while ensuring the health and safety of every worker."

Apple’s largest supplier Foxconn has been battling a COVID-19 outbreak at its production facility in Zhengzhou in recent days, amid one of the country’s largest case resurgences since the citywide lockdown in Shanghai this past spring.

The Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, the business park in which Foxconn’s facility sits, entered a a seven-day lockdown last week in a bid to control transmission, according to state media.

As a result of the outbreak, Foxconn will "revise down" its Q4 outlook, the company announced on Monday. The supplier was previously "cautiously optimistic" about its performance, but revised its guidance amid the Zhengzhou outbreak.

Foxconn noted it is working with the local government to address the outbreak and resume normal production levels "as quickly as possible."

On Monday, the iPhone supplier announced the implementation of a "point-to-point" closed loop production system on its official Chinese social media account. The system, similar to what other companies did during the Shanghai outbreak to limit exposure, segments workers into three dormitories with limited movement around the factory campus. 

Foxconn will announce its Q3 financial results on Thursday.
