Dive Insight:
With the addition of Best Buy, DoorDash continues to grow its business beyond restaurants. In the past year, the delivery platform has added other major retailers, including Victoria’s Secret, Lush Cosmetics, Party City and Staples, and expanded a partnership with Petco.
“This partnership provides consumers access to Best Buy’s diverse selection of specialty consumer electronics with the speed and convenience of DoorDash,” Fuad Hannon, vice president of new verticals at DoorDash, said in a statement. “With the holiday season around the corner, this is a valuable occasion for consumers to shop for tech gifts for everyone on their list and experience the joy of shopping at Best Buy directly on the DoorDash app.”
Meanwhile, other retailers have expanded and enhanced their delivery options leading into the holidays. In October, Etsy promoted its Purchase Protection program, which promises to deliver products on time or offer customers a refund. Sur La Table tapped Walmart GoLocal’s same-day delivery service with plans to expand nationwide.
In addition to offering another delivery option, Best Buy has also been adding more products to its assortment. The retailer introduced electric transportation, outdoor living and wellness products in its brick-and-mortar stores in May 2022. Plus, the retailer added products from home gym company Tonal last month.
As Best Buy grows its product selection, the company has been trying to reach customers via livestream commerce. In November, the retailer partnered with livestream shopping platform TalkShopLive to host a holiday shopping series featuring its virtual sales experts.
The end of the year will be critical for the electronics retailer, which has faced three consecutive quarters of revenue and comps decline. Last month, the retailer reported a 7.8% dip in Q3 revenue, with operating income falling 3% and net income down 5% year over year. Best Buy lowered its annual guidance based on uncertain consumer demand.
