CMA CGM Group plans to use Google’s artificial intelligence solutions to strengthen efficiencies and adaptability in shipping, logistics and media, according to a July 18 press release. The partnership gives the carrier access to Google’s AI solutions, insights from Google experts and custom tools and programs tailored for the three industries.
CMA CGM expects the integration of AI across its operations will help employees in the decision-making process across several workflows, including shipping and logistics. According to the company, such tools will help optimize vessel routes, container handling and inventory management.
The optimized processes aim to ensure efficient and timely delivery of goods while minimizing costs and carbon footprints, according to the release.
Besides ocean shipping, the carrier also plans to integrate AI tools for its logistics arm, CEVA Logistics, which will use the technology for smart warehouse management to better operate its 10.3 million square meters of warehouse space.
“The smart management tool, built on Google technology, will allow CEVA Logistics to better anticipate and plan its operations thanks to an enhanced volume & demand forecasting,” the press release said.
With Google, the carrier also aims to serve customers with better responsiveness and adaptability to market fluctuations while helping CMA Media develop various tools to assist its journalists.
Other carriers have also integrated technology to simplify their supply chains. For example, in February, Maersk added a digital booking solution for its air freight services.
