DHL Supply Chain will close a customer facility in Groveport, Ohio, in December, laying off 264 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act letter filed in October.
According to the notice, DHL Supply Chain was notified by its customer that they were discontinuing operations, effective Oct. 28.
“DHL Supply Chain was recently informed of a decision by one of our customers to restructure its distribution channels,” a DHL spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive in an email. “As a result, the warehouse facility that supports their operations will cease operations in October. We notified our associates of this change on October 4.”
The facility will be closed permanently, with the majority of the layoffs occurring Oct. 31. The remaining 60 employees are scheduled to be let go Jan. 31, 2024, according to the filing. Terminated roles include order fillers, forklift operators, supervisors, and more.
The spokesperson said that the company has been working with its associates to determine opportunities to continue their career at DHL Supply Chain. Employees will be able to apply to another DHL role, and over the next few months, the company aims to place as many associates as possible at other local sites, per the notice.
Earlier this year, DHL Supply Chain laid off hundreds of employees at two facilities in California after a customer notified the company of business changes.
