Dive Brief:
- Electronic appliances shipper Electrolux Group in May announced it had tapped a digital booking platform, Freightos, to improve its air freight booking process.
- Electrolux’s supply chain teams will use Freightos Enterprise Solutions to compare and book guaranteed, carrier and flight-specific capacity using spot or contract rates from their selected freight forwarder, Freightos Chief Commercial Officer Ian Arroyo told Supply Chain Dive.
- The electronics shipper will also use Freightos' software to book freight routes based on estimated carbon emissions. Paolo Galli, vice president of Electrolux Group Logistics Operations said that ability will help further integrate carbon emissions into decisions.
Dive Insight:
Shippers have been looking to unlock more supply chain efficiency and better optimize freight procurement decisions amid a consistently shifting logistics landscape.
Nissan, for example, implemented project44 software earlier this year to gain insight on carriers and shipment tracking. Such visibility can help shippers like Electrolux specify pickup and delivery dates, and use data to analyze past performance.
Freightos' Arroyo said the booking platform leverages multiple features to connect shippers with carriers. “In other words, the company books with their existing forwarder or forwarders and that booking is then conveyed to the carrier. Information on the booking flows back similarly.”
Arroyo did not disclose specifics about the implemented proof of concept with Electrolux.
For Electrolux Group, such a platform will help the company stay on budget when booking freight, while meeting delivery time goals, said Daniel Cole, logistics purchasing director at Electrolux Group.
“This removes unnecessary back and forth between planners and buyers, all while giving us in Purchasing the consolidated data to influence future supplier decisions,” Cole said in the news release.
