For parcel shippers, the start of the year means adjusting to higher carrier rates.
UPS and FedEx's 2025 average rate increases of 5.9% are now in effect, and the U.S. Postal Service is gearing up for its own pricing bump on Jan. 19. OnTrac and GLS US have also rolled out increases.
But with carriers aggressively competing for volume, shippers have leverage to negotiate shipping discounts to counteract these higher prices. However, they should also be wary of various surcharge tweaks for bulky packages, fuel costs and residential deliveries that could impact their bottom lines.
