Dive Brief:
- Crowley Maritime Corp. announced a new weekly, fixed-day container shipping service between Jacksonville, FL, and Costa Rica.
- Two container ships will travel the route, which includes a stop in Port Everglades, FL, as well as Jacksonville, FL, and Puerto Limon, Costa Rica.
- The new route will depart Costa Rica on Fridays, which is an attractive timeline for shipping perishable goods.
Dive Insight:
The service should add a new dimension to Crowley's portfolio of Latin American services and enhance efficiency and cost savings to customers, Crowley said. The company expects the direct FL-Costa Rica service will allow it to enhance speed for supply chains importing from Costa Rica by decreasing travel and customs clearance times.
“We can swing loads from trailers to ocean containers here, reducing equipment re-positioning expenses, and save the additional inland transportation costs that come with the traditional movement of cargo to South Florida," Frank Larkin, Crowley senior vice president and general manager of logistics said in a press release.
Crowley claims to be the leading shipper of goods from the U.S. to the East and West Caribbean as well as Central America. It's routes include service to and from Puerto Rico, six countries in Central America, two in South America, and 16 in the Caribbean.
