Warehouse provider Flexe is laying off 131 employees in its home city of Seattle, according to a Washington state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing..
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifcation on Sept. 26, and said layoffs are expected to start Nov. 27. Employees impacted by the workforce cuts include logistics, solutions and integration analysts and senior software engineers, among others, according to LinkedIn posts by workers affected by the cuts.
“We can confirm Flexe made the difficult decision to part ways with 33% of our staff. We are sincerely saddened to lose such great talent,” a company spokesperson said in an email. “Our team remains focused on serving our enterprise customers. We are not commenting beyond what has already been confirmed with Puget Sound Business Journal.”
The company currently employs more than 400 people, according to its LinkedIn profile.
Flexe was founded in 2013 as an on-demand warehouse provider, matching open facility space with retailers who need it. The company currently provides retailers with logistics warehousing solutions as well as transportation and fulfillment services.
Many logistics companies expanded their employee levels over the last few years to keep up with elevated demand driven by COVID-19. Since then, the economic landscape has evolved, with logistics providers now facing a softer freight market and looking to cut costs.
Several other logistics and transportation firms — including freight forwarders, logistics technology firms and warehouse providers — have cited a drop in demand as a factor in layoffs this year, leaving thousands of workers looking for new opportunities in 2023.
