General Motors aims to use Optilogic’s Cosmic Frog solution to better analyze its end-to-end supply chain network, according to a June 25 press release.
The software enables GM to solve issues ranging from the group level, including customers, suppliers and sub-assemblies, to the individual SKU level, according to the press release. Cosmic Frog also runs test scenarios to increase accuracy and efficiency. The tests will, in turn, help GM collaborate, co-create and share supply chain design models in real-time.
“By having up-to-date access to results as well as the power to create new models and run different scenarios, General Motors can see anticipated results in hours rather than days or months,” according to the press release.
Real-time data and test scenarios have been critical tools for achieving end-to-end visibility across supply chains. Packaged food giant General Mills, for example, built a digital twin of its supply chain using an artificial intelligence platform that takes daily insights and real-time data for full visibility and analysis over its operations.
GM has worked to improve or expand its supply chain, particularly in the electric vehicle space. Last year, the automaker announced plans to make sourcing changes for models not currently eligible for federal tax credits. In February, GM secured an $18.8 billion long-term supply agreement with South Korea-based LG Chem for more than 500,000 tons of cathode materials intended for EV battery production.
