Giant Eagle has implemented a new warehouse management system at three of its distribution centers, according to an Oct. 23 press release.
The grocery retailer is now using Manhattan Active Warehouse Management, a cloud-native platform from Manhattan Associates, in the facilities. The company previously used an on-premises WMS from the supply chain technology provider.
The company is planning to install the system into its four other distribution centers by August 2025. Giant Eagle did not immediately respond to a request for comment to specify which distribution centers are currently using the new platform.
Each distribution center was able to return to previous production levels “within days” of implementation, according to the release. Giant Eagle will also receive quarterly updates to the platform, Stewart Gantt, executive vice president of professional services at Manhattan Associates, said in the release.
“We’ve already received several of these quarterly releases, and many of the new features, like the shipment progress screen, have become essential tools used by our Team Members every day in our three live warehouses,” Dan Kapalko, senior director of technology systems at Giant Eagle, said in the release.
The latest system updates follow Giant Eagle’s adoption of Manhattan Active Transportation Management, a logistics and shipment planning platform from Manhattan Associates, according to the release.
Giant Eagle also opened an automated micro-fulfillment center in Pittsburgh earlier this year. In addition, the grocery retailer recently expanded its partnership with omnichannel location platform Flybuy to reduce delivery times and improve its last-mile delivery service.
