GXO Logistics Supply Chain is permanently ceasing operations at its Fairburn, Georgia facility, laying off all 69 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act letter dated Jan. 8.
Employee separations are expected to start March 10 and be completed within two weeks, according to the letter. The document also noted that there will be no bumping rights for impacted workers.
Positions affected include PIT operators, material handlers, clerks, among others.
The notification came just days before GXO announced plans to lay off more than 200 employees at a facility in Tennessee, which are also expected to begin in March.
While the job cuts were attributed to the logistics company ceasing operations with one of its customers, it is unclear what prompted the closure of its Georgia facility. But a company spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive in an email, “We're working with employees affected by the changes to apply for open roles in several nearby GXO sites that serve other customers."
GXO has closed other facilities as it scales back its warehouse footprint. This includes shuttering two facilities in Texas, one in Wisconsin and another in Indiana.
