Jacksonville Port Authority cargo volumes fell 6% year over year to 113,517 total TEUs in October.
The dip in cargo volumes follows a similar trend from other East Coast ports, including the Port of Savannah and the Port of Virginia which also processed fewer containers YoY.
Larger vessels on the EC5 service operated by THE Alliance, which is made up of Ocean Network Express, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM and Yang Ming, helped create additional capacity in October, Jaxport reported. The upgrades are expected to bring a 60% percent increase in container carrying capacity.
Port volumes dipped 1% month over month, and 8% compared to October 2019. Meanwhile, import and export loads during the same period in 2019 were down 5% and 1%, respectively.
