- Arts and crafts retailer Michaels is partnering with DoorDash and Uber Eats for same-day delivery from more than 1,200 of its stores nationwide, according to a July 25 announcement.
- The retailer's mix of crafting supplies, home décor and more are offered on the delivery platforms at the same retail prices found in-store, per the news release. Michaels also offers same-day delivery through Instacart.
- “Convenience, choice, and flexibility are central to a best-in-class omnichannel experience, and it's more important than ever to deliver on that promise to our customers,” said Heather Bennett, Michaels' executive vice president of marketing and e-commerce, in the news release.

While Michaels offers standard shipping methods, the company is embracing fast delivery platforms as a way to reach new audiences while adding value for frequent customers, Bennett said.
Other businesses are also tapping into the upside of same-day delivery. Academy Sports and Outdoors, The Home Depot, Lowe's, athletic fashion retailer Hibbett, specialty cookware company Sur La Table and repair parts supplier Marcone are among those that have ramped up their offerings through on-demand delivery providers since 2023.
This sustained wave of partnerships underscores how on-demand delivery providers have become far more than just couriers for restaurant orders.
DoorDash now offers more than 150,000 non-restaurant stores across its marketplace and platform services globally, the company said in its own announcement on the Michaels partnership. Michaels marks the company's first foray into the arts and crafts retail category.
Uber Eats is also gaining momentum in categories beyond restaurant delivery. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said on an earnings call Tuesday that the company is "just getting started" in the retail and grocery sectors.
"What we’re seeing in terms of delivery is the long-term growth is incredibly promising, and especially our ability to expand into the adjacent category of grocery and retail," Khosrowshahi said.
