Cargo volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey fell 11% year over year to 644,439 total TEUs in November.
Total TEUs also showed a 13% decrease from October 2023, “which marked the seaport’s busiest month of the year as retailers made final preparations for the holiday shopping season,” according to a port press release.
Both loaded imports and empties decreased YoY by 7% and 21%, respectively, but the port’s loaded exports increased by roughly 2% YoY as well.
Despite the lower YoY volumes, volumes processed at the East Coast port were 7% higher compared to November 2019.
