Cargo volumes at The Port of Virginia fell 16% YoY to 287,232 TEUs in August, marking the port’s seventh consecutive decline in container shipments when compared to the previous year.
"In August 2022 we were still processing the last surges of cargo from the COVID period. So when you look at our current volume numbers we, like many of our peers, are returning to normal volumes/cargo flows," a port spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive in an email.
Despite lower container volumes, the East Coast port saw its total TEUs for the month rise by 12% compared to 2019 levels.
