Container volumes at the Port of Virginia fell 2% year over year to 268,107 total TEUs in December. The dip in cargo reflects the eleventh consecutive month of declining cargo volumes at the port.
Aside from the overall drop, the port also saw loaded imports and empties drop 3% and 5% YoY respectively. Loaded exports were up 1%.
Compared to pre-pandemic levels, container volumes were up 19%, showing volumes have improved long-term, despite the lull in 2023.
