Cargo volumes at the South Carolina Ports Authority fell 9% YoY to 203,169 TEUs in August amid a tepid peak season, the terminal owner and operator said in a news release.
"The U.S. port industry is anticipating a slower peak season than typical due to a lower consumer appetite and tempered U.S. economy," the port operator said.
Despite lower volumes year-over-year, the Port of Charleston saw a jump in volumes in its vehicle segment with 17,876 vehicles moving through the port in August, up 9% year-over-year, according to the release.
