Fulfillment provider Stord has acquired third-party logistics company AMS Fulfillment, expanding Stord's network and furthering its acquisition activity, according to an Oct. 21 news release.
AMS processes over 10 million orders annually for premium brands in the beauty, wellness and direct-to-consumer markets, according to the release. The announcement called AMS the largest acquisition to date for Stord but did not disclose a purchase price.
The addition of AMS' network gives Stord an additional 1 million square feet in key East Coast and West Coast hubs, per the release. AMS has locations in Southern California, Pennsylvania and Delaware, according to its website. Last month, the company expanded its network with the acquisition of Vox Fulfillment, an e-commerce fulfillment provider with over 200,000 square feet of warehouse operations in Provo, Utah.
"Our customers get everything that made AMS great, now backed by the scale and technology to take it further," AMS CEO Greg Morello said in the release.
Stord's network also includes locations in Texas, Georgia, Canada and the U.K. The company processes over $15 billion in gross merchandise value annually for more than 1,000 brands, the release said. It also offers Stord Parcel, a service that factors in a package's individual characteristics to help shippers use the most cost-effective delivery option that meets their speed requirements.
"Over time, AMS customers will benefit from the scale of Stord's full network and parcel program, along with the AI and vertically integrated technology that make Stord's operations smarter, faster, and more cost-effective," the release said.
Stord has expanded its network quickly through acquisitions. Prior to the AMS purchase, Stord's deals have included:
- Taking over the operations of a Dallas fulfillment center previously operated by American Eagle Outfitters-owned Quiet Logistics, which shut down earlier this year.
- Acquiring Shipwire, an e-commerce fulfillment platform, from Ceva Logistics.
- Purchasing UPS subsidiary Ware2Go, a direct-to-consumer and business-to-business fulfillment company.
- Buying a Kentucky fulfillment center from Pitney Bowes.
"AMS further accelerates our scale, while bringing some of the most discerning brands in the industry onto our platform," Sean Henry, Stord's CEO and co-founder, said in the release. "In commerce, scale drives lower costs, faster speeds, and more trust with consumers—powering Stord's flywheel."
Stord's acquisition of AMS is among several acquisitions seen within the logistics industry this year. In July, CMA CGM announced it would acquire FedEx Supply Chain for $1.4 billion, nearly tripling the size of its Ceva Logistics subsidiary's contract logistics operations in North America. And C.H. Robinson unveiled plans to buy RXO for $5.8 billion earlier this month.
