UPS has reinstated its money-back guarantee for its 2nd Day Air A.M. service, lifting a pause that was put in place when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in 2020.
The reinstatement took effect Monday, according to UPS' website.
2nd Day Air A.M. delivers to the 48 contiguous states and parts of Hawaiʻi and Alaska, reaching its destination by 10:30 a.m. in two days.
Cynthia Latortue-Brooks, air product manager for UPS' U.S. business, said in an interview that reinstating a money-back guarantee is not a decision the company makes lightly.
"We chose to turn it on for 2nd Day Air A.M. because it's a time-bound product," Latortue-Brooks said. "So we understand that there is a sensitivity to opting into getting that morning delivery by 10:30 a.m."
Several UPS products still have their guarantee suspended, a pause that began in 2020 when the company saw an influx of volume being delivered to homebound consumers. Delivery demand has softened of late, and carriers are attempting to draw more volume into their networks by offering discounts.
The service guarantee reinstatement helps shippers relying on 2nd Day Air A.M., such as dental offices needing dentures or other materials for afternoon procedures, Latortue-Brooks said.
FedEx offers a competing product in its 2Day AM service. As of Tuesday morning, FedEx listed the service as ineligible for its money-back guarantee on its website.
