Dive Brief:
- Last-mile delivery provider Veho has expanded its reach via a partnership with Clearjet, offering expedited parcel delivery for orders originating outside of its coverage area, the companies announced Tuesday.
- The partnership taps into Clearjet's Fast Skip service, which leverages airline cargo capacity for middle-mile transport. This allows Veho to meet the shipping needs of retailers with West Coast distribution centers, despite its network’s concentration in the Eastern U.S., Midwest and parts of Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas.
- “It allows us to essentially start working with anybody in the United States no matter where they shipped from, because those parcels can get on an airplane that flies into our network," Itamar Zur, Veho CEO and co-founder, said in an interview.
Dive Insight:
The combination of Veho's delivery presence in 42 U.S. markets and Clearjet's airline access provides national retailers a two-day delivery alternative to traditional carriers, according to the release. By tapping into available air cargo capacity for long-haul shipments rather than surface transportation, customers can avoid the higher costs tied to a parcel being handled at multiple stops.
Beyond its middle-mile capabilities, Clearjet offers first-mile pickup services and uses a diverse mix of last-mile carriers to complete the delivery process, according to its website.
With Clearjet's Fast Skip service now in play for Veho shippers, multiple clients will be tapping into the partnership in the coming weeks, according to Zur. Veho is pursuing growth opportunities even amid a difficult demand environment for the parcel shipping industry.
"This is already something that is in motion with several very recognizable brands," Zur said of the Clearjet collaboration.
Other delivery providers are also tapping into air cargo capacity through partnerships. Walmart GoLocal announced a partnership with SmartKargo, which uses airline capacity to transport packages coast-to-coast, last year to strengthen its delivery capabilities. Additionally, SmartKargo collaborated with Delta Cargo to launch a U.S. shipping service known as DeliverDirect.
