Walgreens Boots Alliance Global Sourcing will aim to enhance its sourcing practices using supply chain management solution provider TradeBeyond’s platform, according to a June 26 press release.
The technology solution will help WBA oversee processes within its global sourcing function, alongside overall sourcing and order management operations. Replacing WBA’s legacy systems will further drive digital efficiencies and data transparency, according to TradeBeyond, with roll-out efforts beginning in fall 2024.
"TradeBeyond will support us to deliver improved supply chain transparency, increased speed to market, a unified process for our operations, and a platform to manage collaboration internally and with our supplier partners,” Adam Swallow, WBA’s VP of global sourcing and quality, said in a statement.
The drugstore chain has been making efforts to improve efficiencies across its supply chain, including tapping artificial intelligence for more accurate forecast demands and centralized services for better inventory management, interim CEO Ginger Graham said during a Q4 2023 earnings call.
Optimizing its fulfillment operations has also been a focus for Walgreens, which announced plans to open micro-fulfillment centers in 2021. However, Walgreens paused its micro-fulfillment expansion plan in 2023 to review the strategy’s benefits more thoroughly, and focus on improving the rollout.
